A man in Bromley faces a hefty £833 fine after being caught littering a cigarette butt in Market Square

Initially, he got a £100 penalty notice, but he didn’t pay it. Fast forward to December 3, and he ended up in court, where he pleaded guilty to littering. The total bill came to £833, which included the fine, a surcharge, and court costs.
A spokesperson from the council mentioned that they have teams cleaning the streets every day. They’re serious about keeping the area tidy. Littering is illegal, and they’re not afraid to hand out fines.
This isn’t just a one-off; it’s the twelfth littering prosecution since September. The council hopes this will remind everyone to use bins instead of tossing trash on the ground.
