Girls’ Aloud release Sarah Harding’s I’ll Stand By You for Needy Kids

Girls Aloud will release a version of I’ll Stand By You with only Sarah Harding singing. In keeping with the group’s tradition, I’ll Stand By You – Sarah’s Version will benefit BBC Children in Need. New recordings of Sarah will be released on November 15th in this emotional tribute.

Girls Aloud released I’ll Stand By You in 2004 to benefit Children in Need. Fans responded to the song’s message of friendship and loyalty and it reached the top of the UK charts. This soulful re-release honors Sarah after the band found her solo vocal version while preparing for the tour.

Girls Aloud members Nadine Coyle, Cheryl, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh said the song captures Sarah’s spirit and their bond. Nadine called it “a special celebration of Sarah”,” highlighting her unique voice and the group’s long-standing relationship with Children in Need.

In September 2021, Girls Aloud member Sarah Harding died of breast cancer. She touched fans and friends. The announcement of her cancer in 2020 was met with much support and admiration. This tribute is all the more meaningful because Sarah’s warmth and strength will be remembered.

The group, which formed on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, became a UK household name with multiple chart-topping hits and critical acclaim for their unique sound. After disbanding in 2013, they reunited in 2024 for a 30-date UK and Ireland tour. This tour honored Sarah by showing her on stage with her bandmates using archival footage, moving fans.

Sarah’s image on screen while the band harmonied with her vocal track made I’ll Stand By You an emotional highlight of their recent tour. The band said this song was one of their most moving. Many fans said Sarah’s music brought her alive on stage, making the moments touching.

The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, who wrote I’ll Stand By You, said, “How wonderful to hear Sarah Harding’s lovely vocals leading the way for BBC Children in Need.” Chrissie’s backing adds a unique touch to the 1994 UK Top 10 hit.

The new music video will air on BBC’s Children in Need appeal show on November 15. On November 17, Sarah’s 43rd birthday, ITV will air Girls Aloud tour highlights. ITVX will stream the entire concert.

Girls Aloud hopes Sarah’s rendition of I’ll Stand By You will raise money for Children in Need and remind her fans of her powerful voice. Kimberley Walsh said: “We’re not trying to pretend we wouldn’t be doing this without her – we feel this loss very much.”

Girls Aloud honors Sarah Harding’s life and legacy with this re-release and ensures that her voice and spirit will inspire fans and help others.
